About Me

  • My name is Jenny and I'm a first year university student studying computer science. I'm really awesome.

Right. Well finally I can go on and update my blog. My site's not been working since I got home.

Anyway, pretty unexciting day, so I won't tell you about it.

Was checking out the local music scene online (woo, don't I sound cool? "local music scene" ha ha). I only know two bands from around here, and they really aren't my style of music.

I always check want ads for bands, because I'd love to join a band. But the ads always eliminate me or I eliminate them for several reasons:

  • I'm not old enough
  • I can't drive
  • Not my style of music
  • I suck at drumming

But mainly, for every one, it's all really heavy stuff or so heavy it's crappy stuff.

Now me, I have no problem with rock. Even hard rock, heavy metal, whatever. But sometime in the eighties, mid-nineties probably, music just went too hard. Too hard for me, I mean. The hoarse screaming type not really singing Ozzfest type music is what I'm not crazy for.

These bands though, they mention they sound like bands I've never heard of, so I don't know what type they are. Punk, goth, I don't know.

So. We've established I don't have a problem with music. As good or as bad it is in anyone's opinion. All music is fine with me.

But, like most people, I have a preference of what music I listen to.

Hmm… how would I describe my musical style, tastes, influences? Classic rock, rock n roll, psychedelic rock, British invasion, even some pop. That seems to paint quite a picture for me. Bright colours and flowers and whatnot.

My musical taste is definitely not country, soft rock, grunge, rap, punk, death metal (I suppose that's what it's called), and anything from this millennium unless it's a new release from an old artist. :P

So then on the other side of the spectrum you've got the really light colours (country/soft rock) and the really dark colours (all the others). Which is why I'm a bright colour person. I've never been crazy about pastels or dark colours. Always seemed rather yucky to me.

Since no one else around this crazy town seems to share my taste in music and my age and lack of ability, I"m left with one option: start a band with my brother.

He's got the same taste. He listens to a wider variety than what I do, but I don't really have a problem with any of his music. Except for REM, I don't like them much. And that happy people song… ugh. And Queen I was never all that crazy about, but you can't not love Bohemian Rhapsody. But it was mostly that I thought their songs were stupid (I want to ride my bicycle?, honestly). AC/DC and U2 I'm kinda indifferent towards. They've got some all right songs, but there's just something I don't like.

And age, we're only a few years apart. And I know him. Which is a good and bad thing.

We also both stink. Well, I suppose we're all right. But hey, he can't kick his own sister out of the band, right?
