I vonce killed a man vith a sponge!

I ordered Michael Nesmith's "Television Parts Home Companion" and "Dr. Duck's Super Secret All-Purpose Sauce" last week, and I've finally watched both of them.

I started off last Wednesday with "Television Parts", mainly because it was a shiny new DVD and DDSSAPS was an icky old VHS.

Don't be fooled. "Dr. Duck" is SO MUCH BETTER. That said, watching "Television Parts" first was better, because it was all uphill from there.

Anyway. "Television Parts". There were a few funny parts. Namely "Street Band". Which you can see on the VideoRanch website, and which I had already seen long ago. So it wasn't that funny, because I knew what would happen. But still the last shot, I mean, I knew what was coming, but they did it really nicely, with the saxophone just sneaking up into the shot ominously, instead of actually having the person go into the scene. So I liked that.

Oh yeah. And in the "Cole Porter" scene there was this old guy who said something about "mangoes… yes… we will grow mangoes… lots of mangoes…" which was kind of hilarious.

But really? That was all. The whole "Voyage of the Kona Tiki" bit, well, a little repetitive. No, a lot repetitive. Like, really really repetitive.

When "Chow Mein and Bowling" started up, well, I tried not to get too excited, because I figured it would just end up being crappy. And well, it kind of was. But the coughing part, that's always been hilarious.

The one thing that kind of made up for the crappiness was the song "I'll Remember You". When Mike sings something about John I'm like "ha ha, John, like John Lennon". And then whaddaya know? Well, obviously it's really was that John he was referring to, or else I wouldn't be mentioning it. Awww…! So that was cute. And sad. :(

So last night I decided it was time to watch "Dr. Duck". It starts out with a "Twilight Zone" parody, which I found hilarious, if only because I saw an episode of "The Twilight Zone" a few weeks ago. And now I'm disappointed because I don't see it on anymore! But anyway, first scene good, good!

I believe after that came "Sorority Girls From Hell", which is also available on the Videoranch site, and which I also saw long time ago, and LOVED long ago. Dun, duh nuh, dun, duh nuh, dun, A HA HA HA HA HA! So I'm not complaining about seeing that again.

Another hilarious but short scene was one involving a young Jerry Seinfeld. It's crazy how many people are in this movie! Whoopi Goldberg, Martin Mull, Jay Leno, Rosanne Cash, Garry Shandling, Bob Goldthwait… On IMDB, this movie is one of each of their first four credits, with the exception of Jay Leno, where it clocks in at seventh. Pretty cool, huh?

The whole German director sponge thing was pretty funny too. "Vell, killed is maybe too strong a word, but it made him gud und crazy!" But I won't mention anything about the picture of young hot Mike.

Oh, and one thing I noticed fairly quickly is that they learned how to use a green screen. In "Elephant Parts", oh god. So much bleeding. I think it was like that too in "Television Parts". But this was really nice. Sure, you knew it was a green screen, but it was really crisp and clear and awesome. And the overall filmography, I don't know how to describe it, but it's just so Mike and just so awesome, which well, granted, same thing, right? But I mean, it doesn't seem all that 80s, but at the same time it kinda is.

There were a handful of other funny scenes, with the Jack Handey ones always being good, and "Irish Language Lab", and the song "They Never Met", as well as the hangover song. And Mike's PANTS in the "One Ton Tomato" scene — PRICELESS.

And when 'twas time to end, the screen goes black and clips from the show started appearing in sequence. "Hey, now wait a minute, now wait just a minute!" I said immediately. Was that on purpose, or no? Because Mike does not seem like one to make a Monkees joke like that. But I found it amusing, so whatever. :)
