You know what I could never understand? People copying content from another site and putting it on their own. Even if they rewrite it so "it isnt theft!!1". It's still the same content that you can get from somewhere else. And in almost every case, the place where it was originally found is the better place.

Why bother copying an entire page, maybe changing around the colours, maybe rewording some things, but otherwise having the exact same content?

My avatar list on Darkest Faerie Lair was stolen often. There are probably some versions of it still floating around out there. I always told these people it is much easier for them to just link to the site where you found the content rather than putting it on your their site.

It is seriously just a waste of time. Why bother?

It's also usually blatantly obvious that the content is stolen. I resorted to putting comments into my avatar list code, which sure, that didn't deter anyone, but just made it more slightly amusing for me. I did think about putting invisible images into the code and changing them later, but not sure if I actually ever did it.

Boy, if I knew then what I knew now, I could've done some pretty fun things actually… mwhaha… I also could've stuck an invisible link in there too, get my Google ranking up.

Actually, returning to the point at the beginning, about the better place to get your content. Most of these sites that copied the avatar list or articles or whatever were little Free Webs sites or the like. Sites that don't exist today and that no one ever actually visited.

You know, I think that says something.

I always say that you need content. It's more important than your layout. Some people seem to just focus on that. But stolen content is just as bad as no content.

You want people to come to your site? You want to make some money off of you Adsense ads?

You need FRESH content.

That's all there is to it.
