I ead something about Capgras delusion on Digg some time ago. I found the whole concept quite interesting. Quite possibly… Hollywood? DUN DUN DUN.

Yes, just another one of my great ideas that will never turn out. Though I may as well write about it anyway.

Basically, if you haven’t or don’t want to read the Wikipedia article, Capgras delusion is the feeling that one or more (or all) of the people you know have been replaced with lookalikes. Freaky, huh?

Now, first off, this has obviously been done before. I’m thinking something along the lines of “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers” meets “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”. Like, I’m not thinking aliens. I’m thinking more actors, so maybe throw in a bit of “The Truman Show” too. And then people are of course going to think they are insane but they actually aren’t, so that where “Cuckoo’s” comes from.

But I don’t really want to draw comparisons from these movies or any others. Obviously, every movie will be compared to another. But I don’t want mine to be a ripoff, like “Disturbia”.

So, to avoid comparisons like that, well, for lack of a better way of saying it, I need to put a lot of other crap in there. Obviously, I’m not going to try to make my movie crap. But I’m going to have to make a really interesting character or some other big plot element or something awesome.

Or I could just make a really really awesome movie and everything should be really awesome and it won’t matter that it’s similar to some stupid old movie. Which should be the aim for everyone; to just make an awesome movie no matter what.

OR I could actually reference the other movie in my movie, like have a character be like, “I feel like I’m on The Truman Show!”. Then that way people will assume because I mentioned it, I wasn’t trying to rip it off, or that it was a clever nod to the original, and mine isn’t a ripoff.

But I think I’ll go for the freaking awesome version.

The thing is though, I don’t know how I would convey exactly what I want to convey. This “disease” or “feeling” or whatever (I’m not sure yet) isn’t the same as Capgras, exactly. It would actually be, in my opinion, quite interesting to experience. Sure, not forever. It’s something more suited to be a lucid dream, though I don’t know how exactly I would invoke that.

Wait, crap, re-reading the Digg comments finds me realizing that I am also ripping off that episode of “The Simpsons”.

Anyway, I suppose I’ll have to consider this some more and decide what I’m going to do with it. Also, maybe it won’t even be a movie. Maybe a book. Maybe a rock opera. Who knows? Not me.
