I made a MySpace account long ago. I attempted to make my own pretty layout for my profile — big mistake. Why do so many popular websites have completely disgusting code? I did manage to make a satisfactory, but very plain, layout, after many hours of agony.
Earlier this year though, I gave up and Frankenstein’d it into a emo profile, and I now no longer use it. Also around this time, I joined Facebook. Facebook is apparently the more popular social networking site here in Canada, and it does seem like I know a lot more of the people there. There are also intelligent people there, who I didn’t previously see on MySpace. Correlation…?
Anyway, Facebook is so much cleaner. And while the new-ish apps thing is good, it’s making it more like MySpace, with people adding every annoying little thing they can. It’s also easier for them to add these annoying things with apps.
A lot of social networking sites have the thing where you can add a list of your interests, usually separated by commas. Then, everything between the commas are hyperlinked so you can find people with the same interests. Unfortunately, many people are stupid and write things like “I like music, tv, and books, and umm, lots of stuff!”
So, if someone, for some reason, wanted to find people who liked “and umm”, this person would show up. And that really bugs me. Learn to use the interests box, people. Use it right.
