I mentioned during the Blogathon that BE radio had played a song by Kate Nash called "Foundations", and I actually… kind of… liked it!

This song is a song I never would've heard otherwise. There were so many factors working against this song that would make me never want to hear it.

First off, it's new. Song is from this year, in fact.

Secondly, she's a girl. I do not like girl singers. The only girls I have any albums of are The Mamas and The Papas and Yoko Ono.

And then, she's not big on this side of the pond (yet), so it's not like I'm going to hear her on the radio, at school, etc. However, with MySpace and all, that's not a factor so much as it used to be.

So really, it's quite amazing that this song got to me.

I, of course, checked her out on Wikipedia and learned of her first single, "Caroline's a Victim". Went on over to YouTube and watched the video. And umm… well, I guess it's only a one song deal with me then. It was pretty weird.

And then I found myself down in the kitchen singing "Cara… line… Cara-line's a vic-tim… C-Cara… line…".

You know, most things that I like, at first I dislike because it's too strange. I'm pretty sure I thought The Monkees were weird when I saw the biopic. I hated The Beatles because I liked The Monkees. My brother introduced me to The Who's "Boris the Spider" (although he claims it never happened), and I thought the song was insanely strange. When I first saw "Happy Days", I thought it was a seriously disturbing show… but I have no idea why.

She's actually the second new artist I've taken a liking to, the first being Mika, who Jada recommended to me after finding him on MySpace, I believe. And in fact, I really hated "Grace Kelly" at first and thought "Love Today" was a little strange too.

So, there you have it, folks. Hating things is good for me.
