I think I'm a pretty awesome kid, and I can do a lot of things really well. One of which, however, is not thinking.
In International Business today, we were scheduled to do our presentation about the cons of the fur trade. And then I'm told we are going to be the first presentation of the day.
Now, I'm not one of the kids who freaks out when they have to go first, but the fact remains that the assignment sheet stated that the pro side would be going first. I still didn't have a problem going first. It was just the principle. The teacher says, "well, I've seen both your presentations and I thought it would work better having them go second". Myself, having now seen both presentations, have no idea what she meant by that (except for the fact that she's obviously biased against our group).
So she asks the other group to go first but they say, "you told us on Friday that we'd be going second!". Again, I have no problem with that. Except for the fact that our group wasn't informed of this fact. It ended up they went first and all was fine. I can rather confidently say that our slide show was better, but I can't really say content-wise who won. I think they were both pretty good.
Of all the presentation topics in the class, ours and theirs are the only ones that are a "debate". The teacher didn't say much about this to us, so I figured we weren't actually doing it. But after our presentation, with five minutes to the end of class, the other group — who have been furiously scribbling down what we've been saying the entire time — is all enthusiastic about doing the debate.
It was pretty chaotic, everyone talking at the same time and all that, which I kind of expected. I didn't do much talking, as always. I was able to get away with it though, since I'd only researched the economic aspects and no one was bring that up. But then one girl comments on a statistic I'd given about how many seals had been killed, and how it was actually only 5% of the entire population, and we kind of had to give a response, so, quoth I: "eh… [shrugs]".
Me = no debate good. I can't think up things on the spot like that! Of course, a couple minutes later I realized I could've said something about how only a tiny percentage of the human population is murdered, but that doesn't make it any less of a crime. But up there, in front of the class, I can't think up these things!
And if it could ever be said by anyone at anytime… I was saved by the bell.
Except then there was talk with the teacher about continuing the debate… needless to say, I am not going to feel much like showing up tomorrow.
