I officially turned eighteen at 7:01 yesterday morning. I was asleep, as I always am that time of year. Though, I think I did manage to wake up early once when I turned eleven or twelve, but then decided I liked sleeping far too much to do it again.

I finally took my G1 test yesterday and passed with only one wrong. It was rather easy and only took me about five-ten minutes. The one question I got wrong was "As a G1 Driver, the fully licensed driver accompanying you must have a blood alcohol level of less than…?" and I said 0.5% but it was actually 0.05%. But pfft, what a useless question; I'm not planning on driving with anyone who's drunk! Ask me a question about right of way or turning lanes or something useful! Anyway, it's just nice to have that all done and don't have to worry about it anymore.

Then it was off to Niagara Falls for their annual New Year's Eve bash. I do prefer Foreigner (who played last year) to the bands they had this year (Honeymoon Suite, Loverboy, and Dennis DeYoung of Styx), but I guess considering the absolutely miserable weather last year and the fact that I knew two rather than just one of the bands this year, they were about equal.

Honeymoon Suite, Party in Niagara

Can't say much about Honeymoon Suite or Loverboy the first time around, since I didn't know any of the songs they played. I do know Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose" and "Everybody's Working For The Weekend", but they didn't play those in the first set and we didn't stay for the second set, which was just before midnight. Loverboy played "Riders On The Storm" in the middle of one of their songs, which was cool. I think Mike Reno from Loverboy still has a pretty good voice, but I couldn't say for sure without having heard the original songs to compare it to.

Loverboy, Party in Niagara

Dennis DeYoung came on last, and he also sounded quite good. By that time, what with people leaving in between sets and such, we had made our way up fairly close to the stage. We arrived at 8:00, when it all started, so we had goods spots to begin with besides. Unfortunately though, we were near a group of drunk guys who kept shouting "COME SAIL AWAY!", and who were pissed when he didn't play it in the first set. I thought it was obvious that all the acts were saving their hit songs for the second televised set, but apparently not.

Dennis DeYoung, Party in Niagara

I keep trying to remember what Dennis DeYoung looked like, but I keep seeing Kenneth Branagh as Hamlet instead. I was also totally in his line of vision like the entire time; it's like he knew I was a Jennifer and there was a connection there. But he didn't play that song, which I'm kind of glad about, considering it's about a girl who is seventeen, and it would kind of be the absolute worst timing possible for that.

After he finished his first set, he came back on again, and the local weatherman was there introducing the songs and stuff for the (semi) live broadcast. Dennis DeYoung did five more songs, which included two songs he sang previously, I believe, and then finished off with "Mr. Roboto", "Babe", and "Come Sail Away". It was kind of surreal, the end of "Mr. Roboto" with everyone chanting "KIL-ROY! KIL-ROY! KIL-ROY!". And of course, everyone sang along with "Come Sail Away".

After that, they showed a video of Honeymoon Suite performing "New Girl Now" from earlier to show on the televised broadcast while they were setting up Loverboy's equipment. It was then that we left, since it was pretty cold and we'd been standing out there for almost four hours. Not quite the same as in Sarnia when it was at least warm standing there for seven hours.

So, 'twas nice and all. I guess I should be a little more grateful, getting to go to concerts on my birthday every year. But I think next year we should find one in Australia instead.
