Citizen Duane… Part II
Some of my many longtime readers may recognize the title "Citizen Duane" within the realm of Cool Cherry Cream. This is a continuation of that post from three years ago.
So, three years ago, they were filming a movie called "Citizen Duane" down the street from my house, and I went to watch. Today my mom called me downstairs saying "hey, that 'Citizen Duane' movie is on!". Hey, cool!
Way back on that fateful day, we said "hey, we should go see this movie when it's in theatres". Unfortunately, we weren't lucky enough to be witness to the filming of a big Hollywood movie, and to my knowledge, "Duane" was only on the festival circuit and not actually released in theatres. But now, three years later, here it was, on TV.
Maybe you've seen this movie. Maybe you are puzzled by the scene I described watching all those years ago:
So they do this little dialogue thing that I couldn't really hear since they weren't that loud, and then the friend gives Duane a bottle of alcohol and Duane walks off and drinks the alcohol. His friend says "keep your chin up!" or something and then Duane makes this motion back to him. Then his friend calls out various phrases "I still love ya man!", "Chicks think you're hot!" or whatever. Which I thought was odd, because he said something different almost every time. So then Duane just walks off drinking. The end.
Me, "Citizen Duane"
This scene was never in the movie. I kind of suspected it wouldn't be, since nothing really happened. However, during the montage in the film, when Duane is all sad and stuff and everything is going bad for him, you see a quick shot of Duane walking down the street at night with a bottle of beer. And this, my friends, is what I watched it take twenty minutes to set up for, every single take. All that hard work certainly paid off.
My clearest memory of this event, I, for some reason, didn't put in my original post. Duane was sitting on the porch with the character called "Rebel Stoner" and apparently smoking pot. At one point, the director must've said something about not having them smoking for one take, and I distinctly remember one of the crew members singing "you take the bong out, you put the bong in…", but apparently this was too risqué for my fifteen year old self to mention in my blog.
I recognized a few places in the movie, so that was kind of cool. But yeah, a little disappointing that "my" scene wasn't actually in it.
Sorry we cut your scene! Hope you enjoyed the movie, otherwise.
We loved shooting in Hamilton, everyone was very friendly and helpful
