I personally have never called any of my teachers douchebags on this blog. In fact, I think I've been rather polite when discussing my teachers here. Even times when I was justified in calling them whatever name, I still didn't. I instead look at the situation calmly and try to suggest why they might have acted in such a way, give them the benefit of the doubt.
That's not to say I've never come home and whined to my mom "Mr. so-and-so is such a douchebag!". Because I know I have. Many times.
I don't really see any problem with this kid calling the staff douchebags. If she had just said "ooh, they're so stupid!" no one would care. But people are afraid of the word. They're afraid of douchebags. Embrace it, folks: douchebag.
I certainly wouldn't have sued if I was in that position because I don't take things that far. But I wouldn't apologize just to get my position back either, because I'm just not like that. I don't say sorry unless I mean it. Or unless there would be an awkward silence otherwise and it just seemed like the proper thing to say to pass the time.
I guess her losing her position was justifiable if you look at it in a certain way. In government or a business, if someone was involved in a scandal, they would either choose to resign or be asked to resign or maybe be told to resign. I don't know exactly how it works. But it kind of makes sense. The scandal would reflect badly on the government/business as a whole and they would be pressured to resign.
The thing that gets me though is that a lot of teachers are, in fact, douchebags! Kids hate their teachers; it's a fact of life. Every single kid has, at one point, had a teacher they hated. Kids have always called their teachers names and they always will. Alice Cooper even put it in a song, and did he get punished for it? Well, actually, I wouldn't know as I wasn't alive at the time.
Put it in a song, put it in your diary, tell your friends at recess, but as soon as you put it on the internet, we-he-hell! Teachers are old folks. Old folks hate computers, as I have already established. Internet is bad.
Wait, how did that "Brady Bunch" episode go? The one were Marcia drew a funny picture of her teacher (spoiler alert!) but didn't really? (/spoiler) Okay, so apparently she was drawing a picture of George Washington, but it really sucked, and then her friend (who I want to say was named Jenny?) put a caption on it with their teacher's name and then Marcia had to stay after school. That's not too bad a punishment. But was it justified? Ehhh, I don't think so.
Actually, that brings me to something else. Teachers get pissed over such ridiculous things! I noticed that particularly teachers get angry when students are talking. Understandable and obvious. But they get really mad out of nowhere! There are days where I think "uh oh, the teacher's gonna yell at us" because everyone was so loud — but they don't. And then on days when we only just start talking, they freak out and punish us. I think I'm going to chalk up up to just being on days when they have a headache/are hungover, which teachers are surprisingly often I'm learning.
There are also a lot of teachers who are unnecessarily mean. Okay, not a lot, but it just seems like a lot to me right now. They, well, not quite ridicule, but get angry when students are wrong or don't know what to do. Their first instinct is obviously not to help them learn how to do it — I mean, what the fuck job do you think they signed up for? No! They give them a disgusted face and make them feel bad about themselves for not knowing the answer! Which, yeah, sometimes, they probably should know it. But other times, I would blame their lack of knowledge on the subject on your lack of good teaching-ness!
Honestly!
I am just really fed up with teachers. Are university professors any different? God, I hope so.

College professors tend not to be idiots. They know that it's your choice to go to their classes, so they don't care much if you skip class or anything. As long as you're not jumping up and down and screaming in foreign languages during class, they probably won't lash out at you, if only because they don't know who you are.
