There's a lot of talk about the new Canadian DMCA. My stance? Well, as always, I know not much about it, and so, I'm not going to talk about it.
But downloading music. That's an issue I know about. And I absolutely believe downloading music should be completely… illegal. I haven't seen any good arguments for making it legal. "The original artist isn't getting any of the money! You're not supporting artists, just big recording companies!" Be that as it may, the record companies do have a role in this. There are a lot of people involved in making a record album, not just the artist. Engineers, producers, technicians, lots of stuff. These people all need to be paid too.
That said, I do download songs. I've gone over this before, I'm sure. I download songs, figure out if I like them, then buy the album if I do. The actual CD. I have a tower of freaking CDs in my room. (They're these shiny round flat things, about 3" wide or so, maybe you've seen one once in the nineties?)
Anyway, I'd really like to hear some good arguments for making downloading (for free) legal, because that would mean I don't have to go out and buy a Right Said Fred album just for one song, but I've yet to hear any.
