I was uploading some new images to my Photos site, but I found I really don’t like the script I’m using. For one, it takes a long time to load. Plus, it’s bulky and there’s a lot of stuff I don’t need and stuff I don’t understand. Two, I like having the ability to comment on photos, but I was never notified when I got new comments and there is no spam blocking thing implemented.

So, I said, what the heck, I’ll write my own! I’m planning on writing a bunch of little scripts like that for my Spider’s site, and a photo gallery would be a helpful one. I quite like making scripts I’ve found.

Anyway, I’ve done most of it in two hours with no problems and I know how to do everything else I want to accomplish. So, what was the point? I suppose I should’ve done it in a language other than PHP, try to learn something new, you know?

Speaking of learning something new, there have been a few times I’ve wanted to give up on Linux, but then I remind myself that I need to learn this sooner or later, and sooner is better than later. But just downloading and installing things, you can’t just double click! You have to go to Terminal and type in ./configure and all this other stuff. Plus, I’m not even sure if I’ve done it right.

A little research shows me that I probably am doing it right, and it’s just the problem (Cheese) that’s the problem. Apparently not many people can get it working. Oh well. Next thing is to get Wine figured out and installed so I can use MSN Messenger and use my webcam with that. I attempted that today, using a MSN style messenger program, but the webcam option would never work. It was kind of cool, with my laptop on my lap, signed into one user, and my monitor on my desk on another. “what’s up jenny” “nm jenny”. There was actually a surprising amount of lag between the messages being delivered occasionally. And I finally figured out the “Name is typing a message” thing. If you have any words in the text box, but even if you aren’t typing, you’re still considered typing. Interesting.

Anyway, back to scripting… mmm…
