I don’t have any earliest memory. I don’t remember much of anything specific from when I was really young. The things I do remember are in part due to watching videos of myself as a child and I go “oh yeah, I remember that”, but I actually just remember watching the video when I was younger.
I do have a distinct memory of someone else’s earliest recollection, but I have no idea who they are. They are in a baby carriage, except I don’t know if they called it that. Maybe a stroller, but I have a feeling it was pram and thus that they are British. They’re in the pram and they’re a baby and it’s raining and their poor old mother mum is pushing them along. I distinctly get the feeling that they described her as poor. Not as in opposed to rich, but poor as in, you know, poor. They probably said something about feeling safe and content and I have a feeling the stroller was covered with plastic.
Searching Google has done no good to reveal the owner of this memory. I found one person who described a very similar memory on this site, but it was buried deep in the comments and it seems unlikely I’d ever seen it before. The layout of the site did look awfully familiar, and I think at one point in my life it’s very possible I did stumble across the site. But that particular entry? Who knows.
Seeing as I can’t find this exact anecdote by someone who I would obviously have heard say it leads me to believe someone may have told me this in real life. I also have an inkling it might have been Rachel Fuller and she may have said it on her webcast a few years ago, in which case, I don’t think there are any transcripts of those.
I don’t know why exactly this has stuck out to me, but it did, and now that I’m thinking about it, it’s bothering me that I don’t know who said it!
Oh. My. God. Going by the initials from the comment on the blog mentioned above… I think I may have figured out who owns the memory! (And thus, I have found — yes! — a celebrity on the internet!) It will take until this weekend for me to find an old book of mine and to verify it… but yes. I think I know who it is. :D
